Puppy's First Steps: Surviving the First Few Weeks
Partager
Bringing a puppy home is a wonderful experience. It's also discovering that a creature weighing just a few pounds can run everywhere, chew on everything in sight, and have almost inexhaustible energy.
The first few weeks are, however, essential for building the foundations of a balanced life. As soon as it arrives, establish simple routines: regular meal times, frequent outdoor breaks, and quiet rest periods.
Potty training requires patience. A lot of patience. And sometimes even a little more. Accidents are part of the learning process. Rewarding good behavior is always more effective than punishing mistakes.
Socialization is also a key step. Your puppy needs to gradually discover different environments, people, noises, and situations to become a confident dog.
Also, remember to provide him with appropriate toys and mental stimulation activities. A mentally tired puppy is often much calmer than a bored puppy.
Finally, choose a comfortable collar and a leash suited to its size to start its first walks in the best conditions.
One day, your adorable little furball might stop stealing your socks. Maybe.
